Hydrogen Heating Plans Tackle Global Warming

Sunbury-on-Thames, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/19/2016 -- The UK has set bold targets to phase out the use of natural gas and replace it with a hydrogen network in a bid to tackle climate change and global warming. Hydrogen is much more friendly to the environment, making it a greener gas; a necessity in the search for more renewable sources.

The Climate Change Act dictates that the UK must reduce emissions by 80% by 2050. Should the proposal be accepted, Leeds would be the first city to pilot the scheme, which would update the entirety of the gas network to hydrogen.

According to Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the project would cost an estimated £2bn with funding promised by the energy regulatory body, Ofgem. A successful pilot scheme would see the network being updated to use hydrogen in cities and towns throughout the UK.

A spokesperson for South Thames Plumbing & Heating commented "The UK is under rapidly increasing pressure to adhere to the targets set out within the Climate Change Act and switching to a hydrogen supply seems a very logical and efficient alternative. We hope the pilot scheme is accepted and leads the way to a brighter, greener future for Britain."
