Hydroponics to Feed Rural Arctic Villages: Grown Up Hydroponics Comments

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/16/2016 -- An Alaskan Native company is working hard to grow fresh produce for rural villages using hydroponic technology as farming outside in the tundra of the artic has proven unsuccessful. The Alaskan company are already growing kale, spinach and a range of lettuces inside shipping containers and are hoping to produce enough to feed the Kotzebue villagers all year-round.

In Kotzebue it can take up to two weeks from being picked to make it to grocery stores by which time many are in dire conditions and still expensive. Because of this, Alaska Commercial have finally agreed to purchase enough hydroponic equipment to stock its 28 rural grocery stores in turn enabling the people within the villages to eat better for less.

UK based hydroponics company Grown Up Hydroponics is backing this solution fully and a spokesperson for the company had this to say, "It is really important that everyone, no matter where they are in the world are able to purchase and eat greens affordably, this is something close to our hearts and are really happy to hear about these plans."
