Ian Andrews, Fraudster Specialist, Helps Businesses Avoid Scam Threats

Fresno, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/25/2016 -- During the last bit of the year of 2015, expert fraud detective under the name of Ian Andrews fraudster informed the public on his WordPress blog with tips and advice on how to stay safe online. Andrews' tips cover how to protect yourself when dealing with suspicious e-mails and what to do if you believe you have been the victim of such an attack.

"I have been doing this fighting against fraudsters well over 10 years. I started to get passionate about this topic because I noticed no one else really was," said Andrews. "My main goal is to cut down on online crimes, because it only takes one to ruin a life. With a rise in online crime up 10% since 2014, I can't sit back and do nothing"

One of the tips Mr. Andrews gives in his published post is when resetting your password to not type it out on the keyboard just in case you could be infected with a malicious program called a "keylogger". A keylogger is a type of malware that records your keystrokes, allowing a fraudster to read everything you have typed. Ian Andrews commented by saying, "I suggest those who are suspicious about being infected with a keylogger to change their password with an on-screen keyboard because if done with normal typing, that password is confiscated as well."

In order to avoid an even larger problem as a victim, Mr. Andrews also says it's wise to not use the same password for every one of your e-mail accounts. This bit of information could be implemented for all other accounts as well rather than just e-mail. "The password used to be our only means for protecting ourselves online and that is why it was so important to choose a complex password for every account you use," said Andrews. "If I could give any extra information that I did not include in my blog post, I'd say use a password generator and have your passwords encrypted in a spreadsheet to keep track of them. Use your cellphone to authenticate your log in with a text code. You can never be too safe with your precious data."
