Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema

Idyllwild 2014…It's a Wrap

Idyllwild, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/20/2014 -- The Idyllwild International Festival Of Cinema's 5th annual gathering is now just a memory. But in the thoughts and hearts of the selected filmmakers, the festival winners, and the overflowing crowds in attendance, Idyllwild 2014 will go down as one of the great independent film events of the year. Festival Director, Stephen Savage says, "With well over 100 feature films, shorts, documentaries, music videos and web series screened between January 7th and 11th, the scope of the festival was bigger and better than ever, securing a bright and promising future for Idyllwild's winter showcase of movies."

The official opening night films included the epic Texas tale “Red Wing” and the charming dramady from Ireland, “The O’Brien’s” which went on to win the “Best of Festival” award. From opening with a bang to the exciting standing room only closing night awards ceremony, Idyllwild proved a perfect example of what an independent film festival should be.

The small mountain village of Idyllwild, California, called the Jewel of Riverside County, has now played host to the festival for half a decade. With its strong support of local merchants and local government, the next half decade and beyond will undoubtedly expand this into one of the premiere festivals in North America. Idyllwild 2014's line up of independent films included presentations from the UK, Ireland, France, Canada, and Australia, as well as showcasing young filmmakers from across the US.

Festival Executive Producer, Trinity Houston adds, "It was exciting to see the number of submissions by women this year, representing a third of the directors and screenwriters in the competition. This translated into some big wins by women at the awards ceremony, including an impressive sweep by Chiuti Tiu for her dramatic feature, ‘Pretty Rosebud.’”

Some Hollywood stars showed their support by attending the festival such as Frances Fisher, Jim Beaver, Irene Bedard, and Wolfgang Bodison, shining a light on the fact that Idyllwild's brand is drawing attention from major players in the entertainment business. All in all, 2014's grand showing has solidified the festival's place among the most prestigious film events in California, and soon, the world.
