ImageFIRST Denver Shares CDC's 2015-2016 Influenza Report

Denver, CO -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/18/2015 -- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recently released "What You Should Know for the 2015-2016 Influenza Season," a slideshow of frequently asked questions about influenza season in the United States, the yearly flu season is both inevitable and unpredictable. In order to protect themselves, individuals should do their utmost to prevent the spread of flu by following CDC guidelines. ImageFIRST Denver, a provider of sanitized nurse uniforms in Denver, CO, recently shared the specifics of the CDC's report with its clients, just in time for peak flu season, which typically occurs between December and February.

Since the flu virus fluctuates and mutates each year, the body's immune system can't keep up with virus mutation, and vaccines are necessary. The CDC officially recommends a flu vaccine for everyone over the age of 6 months, and advises that they seek vaccination as soon as a vaccine becomes available. This season, both trivalent and quadrivalent vaccines are available (these protect against three and four different strains of virus, respectively). Vaccines are typically available at doctor's offices, clinics, health departments, pharmacies, employers, schools, urgent care clinics and college health care center.

Since neither the timing of the flu virus's appearance nor the types of virus that will emerge during the flu season can be predicted with complete certainty, the CDC recommends that individuals supplement vaccines with other preventative measures. These include frequently washing hands, staying away from sick people and staying home from work or school if they are sick in order to avoid spreading the flu to others.

If already sick, those in "high-risk" categories (i.e. children aged 2 or younger, pregnant women, adults older than 65) should seek antiviral treatment immediately.
