Initial Crowdfunding Goal Reached for the Chiriseri Mbira Collective Debut Album Project Now Has Sights Set on Higher Goals

The Chiriseri Mbira Collective comprises of Kennedy Chinyere, William Chitauro and Prince Mandere with guest artists Lavender Soko and the Mhondoro mbira players. The objective of this project is to help these exceptional musicians in rural Zimbabwean release their first album.

Matawan, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/17/2014 -- The Chiriseri Mbira Collective is dedicated to playing, singing and dancing traditional mbira music, a celebratory and ceremonial form of Zimbabwean music that builds a bridge between generations. Unfortunately, the unfavorable economic climate in Zimbabwe has made life extremely difficult for these dedicated musicians.

UK based Denise Rowe recently visited Zimbabwe to record traditional mbira music. The recordings took place at night in the kitchens, and amidst the sacred mountains in the villages of Chiriseri and Mhondoro. Denise is now ready to produce an album that will let the world know about the magic of mbira music, and help these exceptional musicians support their families.

Denise Rowe started her Indiegogo campaign to raise £1,800 for expenses such as CD mastering, design, duplication & distribution, and editing time. As per the latest project update, the campaign has already raised well over its initial funding goal. All funds raised beyond the initial goal will be spent to improve the quality of life of the musicians in Zimbabwe.

Denise has created excellent rewards for backers of the project, including copies of the album, images from Zimbabwe, handcrafted sculptures and an opportunity to visit Zimbabwe and meet the musicians.

Denise Rowe is a musician and dance artist with over 12 years experience managing projects, events and companies. Over the last seven years, she has known and learnt from these mbira players. Immediately after reaching her Indiegogo funding target, Denise expressed her satisfaction saying, “We reached our goal! It's fantastic, now every penny we raise goes directly to the musicians in Zimbabwe.”

This Indiegogo campaign will come to an end on December 15, 2014.
