Instagram Plans to Launch Anti-Harassment Tools Through Comment Stream Filter and Program Settings

To combat harassment on Instagram, this famous online photo sharing platform is going to launch anti-harassment tools. People could choose to either keep high volume content threads through comment stream filter, or turn off comment entirely.

Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/01/2016 -- As one of the most famous and popular online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service, Instagram has 400 million active users by 2015. Since online harassment has become a big problem as Instagram grows, the platform is reported to launch anti-harassment tools. With this update, Instagram users could choose to either turn off comment function entirely, or keep high volume content threads with comment streams filter.

Online promotion has become a general way to promote business nowadays. However, with the fast developing of online promotion, there comes online harassment. According to a report by Pew Research Center, more than 40 percent of all people on the Internet have been reported experiencing some form of harassment online.

Being one of the most popular photo sharing platform, a big amount of Instagram users take photos with phones, make photo slideshows, and then upload photos and photo slideshows to Instagram platform for sharing. The comment part has been a hot place for people to gather around for communicating and discussing. However, along with online promotion, the comment part gradually turns to be a trash can of advertisement and abuse even. With such big amount of active users, Instagram has become a hard-hit place of harassment comments. That's why Instagram plans to launch these anti-harassment tools.

The anti-harassment tools included 2 methods. For those people who decide to leave the comments alone or use Instagram less frequently, just turn off the comment function entirely on program's setting panel. For people who care about the comment and don't want to be disturbed by harassments, after this update, they could make use of the newly added "Comment Moderation" feature, which allows people to create a banned words list and then automatically hide the comments that use those terms.

It's quite easy to set the Comment Moderation. People only need to program settings page and then navigate to the "Comment Moderation" option. Open it, enable "Moderate Comments", and then set banned words or phrase according to personal needs. Save the settings and Instagram would then carry it out.

The newly added Comment Moderation feature acts just like comment stream filter to filter and hide comments that contains words people have set. This new filter would block these comments so as to avoid harassment.

Actually, this update is for individual accounts. For business pages, the comment stream filter has been released a little bit earlier, which similarly lets accounts block comments with certain offensive words and phrases.
