The collection features a series of frames taking inspiration from a number of brands such as Marwitz and Cazal as well as their own play on classic wayfarer shapes and interpretations of the vintage spectacle and popular flat top frame.

It’s not just the sunglasses great shapes that make an impact, Under the Sun eyewear’s other resounding feature is they have been sustainably cut and carved from specific hard wood types from in and around Oceania, the woods currently featured are Maple, Ebony and Bamboo. Each wood species is specifically treated to help bring out different features in the wood and due to the nature of wood, every single frame is unique. The individualism of each frame is what really makes these lightweight 100% UVA/UVB polarised wood sunglasses a stand out.

Serious attention to detail has gone into the design of each style with examples of plyed wood enabling the creation of multi layered colouring within the sunglasses as well as treatment processes to bring out certain characteristics of different wood types with wood etching finishing off the look.

Luke said “Just under two years ago when I had completed my first frame design, I had just heard of wood being used in sunglass design and had planned on using acetate but the idea stuck. The medium allows for contours, textures and tonal musings you just can’t replicate with plastic frames. The great thing about the biological origin of every pair is that they are as individual as the people that wear them.”
