Lewes, DE -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/12/2015 -- We downgraded the IT market outlook for Japan in the Q415 update after a deterioration in confidence levels due to a downturn in equity markets in China and across the region in 2015, but particularly in August 2015. The downturn occurred within the context of an already weak medium term economic outlook, and a declining and ageing population, and as such we now forecast the IT market will grow at a CAGR of just 1.6% 2015-2019. These drags on growth should not obscure the benefits in per capita spending terms from the fact Japan's IT market is well developed, with high penetration of devices and solutions, as well as a large base of domestic IT vendors that operate at the national, regional and global level. It is characterised by high per capita spending levels on IT, compared to the majority of markets in APAC, but enterprise spending as a share of revenue remains low, compared to the most advanced IT markets such as the US. The largest opportunities are in emerging technologies such as cloud computing and the Internet of Things, where adoption rates are still low. However, even in mature segments of the IT market, the Japanese market will continue to be lucrative for vendors.

Headline Expenditure Projections
- Computer Hardware Sales: JPY585trn in 2014 to JPY5.47trn in 2015, a decrease of 6.4%. Drop in upgrade demand after the withdrawal of Microsoft support for XP in April 2014, as well as a slowdown in the tablet market, will combine to result in market contraction in 2015

Ongoing investments in datacentres, broadband networks, the development of e-government services and IT companies' launch of internet of things platforms will underpin the particularly strong growth in the IT software and services segments in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria over the five years to 2019. However, the still low penetration of computers means that the hardware segment will remain the largest contributor to all three countries' IT markets. Despite risks of lower commodities prices constraining government budgets, we expect the public sector to remain the largest spender on IT products and solutions, while consumer-facing industries such as financial services, telecoms, and retail, including ecommerce, to drive private sector IT spending.

Headline Expenditure Projections
Ghana
- Computer Hardware Sales: GHS1.0bn in 2015 to GHS1.2bn in 2016, +16.8% in local currency terms. The government's ambitious Basic Schools Computerisation project and e-governance initiative will be the main growth driver.

We see Poland as one of the most attractive IT markets in the region over the medium term, based on relatively low IT device and solution penetration, our robust economic outlook and improvements to supporting infrastructure such as network quality and capacity. This will have positive spillover effects, particularly given its overall growth in technology trends towards increased software and services spending. Enterprise and government spending has a stronger outlook over the medium term, in part supported by the distribution of EU funds for ICT and information society-related initiatives. However, we expect growth will be subdued in 2015 compared to 2014 and 2016-2019, as technology cycles and depreciation of the zloty limit the growth rate.

Headline Expenditure Projections:
- Computer Hardware Sales: PLN12.33bn in 2015 to PLN14.11bn in 2019, compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.0% in local currency terms. After a deceleration in 2015 derived from product cycles and economic conditions, we expect the market to return to a stronger growth trajectory from 2016.
