Originally opened simply to make use of vacant space after tenants and shops moved away, this new innovation has proved to be more successful than initially anticipated.
At TanabatakeSukusuku it is possible for anyone who comes to the garden to rent a hydroponics container on a monthly basis where they can in turn grow up to 21 plants of up to three different varieties. As you can bring you own seeds to grow here, you are not limited to what you grow and if you don't have your own seeds, you are presented with 50 different options to choose from including a selection of lettuce and radish.
At the garden, staff are stationed to control humidity and temperature and measure fertilisers, making sure that plants are all growing to the best of their abilities. If for any reason individuals renting these hydroponic spaces cannot tend to their crops due to overtime or business trips, these staff members will also look after their plants for them.
