Ivyland, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/15/2016 -- On September 18th, the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation will hold its biggest event of the year. Bike the Basin is a fundraiser that raises money to directly benefit the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to funding research towards a cure for degenerative retinal disease. Now in its 6th year, the upcoming Bike the Basin has just added even more exciting incentives to join the fun and come together for an important cause.

The 6th Annual Bike the Basin will take place on Sunday, September 18th, starting at 9:30 AM and ending at noon. The Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation will host the event at the Northampton Civic Center in Richboro, PA. Throughout the day, participants of all ages can take part in biking the Basin, whether it's a safe half-mile track for ages 1 to 14 or the three-mile Trek the Tyler course for ages 14-18. The Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation also encourages those who can't make it to ride from wherever they are and post videos and photos with the hashtag #BIKE4SIGHT to show their support.

In anticipation of Bike the Basin, the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation has added even more activities for Bike the Basin and is pleased to announce support from two local businesses. During the day, participating kids will get a chance to meet and greet with the Disney Princesses; plus, participants can play mini golf when not biking. Additionally, Newtown-based optometrist Pascarella Eye Care and Contact Lenses has generously donated 350 UVA/UVB-blocking eyesight for riders and volunteers, so that they can protect their eyesight during the day. About The Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation
The Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation was founded by families with CRB1 patients including Kristin and Mike Smedley, parents of two children diagnosed with Leber's congenital amaurosis, a rare eye disease that causes blindness in childhood. Undeterred by this challenge, the Smedley family recruited help from other affected families and founded the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation. The organization raises funds to support research for a cure, and also provides supportive resources for families living with retinal blindness.
