Oakland Park, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/12/2016 -- Manufacturing journalist, TR Cutler looked at the role of Hytrol conveyors and integration partner, Advanced Equipment Company (AEC) and how they helped Morinaga America's Mebane, NC candy manufacturing facility. The recent article was published in AutomationMedia.com and according to Cutler, Morinaga America needed to design its new conveying and packaging lines. AEC's challenge was to develop a system that would convey the product from the bagging machines into the check-weighing system which would verify the weight of the bags. From there, the bags of candy were conveyed to an operator station where operators manually unloaded the bags from an upper belt conveyor into display boxes in cartons below on an accumulating conveyor.
Scott Hartman, one of the leading AEC material handling specialists, shared, "We effectively communicated the benefits of accumulation conveyor and were able to change the design for a couple of problem areas. We used the Hytrol E24EZ Conveyor with a special design. The rollers were set lower than usual to accommodate pushing cartons onto the conveyor from the table. One of the benefits of using this system is that it's got an automatic accumulation built into the conveyor – very user-friendly."
Since installation on the project finished, Morinaga has been very pleased with the consultation and work that AEC provided. The company is actually discussing upgrading its check-weighing system; Hartman and the AEC team will reconfigure that part of the conveyor system as well.
