With the 2014 World Cup in the past, Brazil is turning its attention to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Although the World Cup proved very successful, several major transport projects failed to come to fruition. Completing this will be the priority in the near future, both in order to provide pledged infrastructure investment and to prevent protests from domestic groups who claimed that the projects would only benefit the World Cup. Projects located close to Rio de Janeiro are likely to be prioritised, as the city will host the Olympic Games in less than two years. In particular, the long-promised high-speed rail link between Rio and S?o Paulo will be a major focus.
