A substantial number of smart grid developments took place in May 2014, including product launches, fundraising events and the announcement and completion of contracts and projects. A total of six major acquisitions took place in May. One was the acquisition of PowerSense, a Danish smart grid sensor and monitoring company, by Landis+Gyr, a global leader in the provision of energy management solutions. Another acquisition was that of SynapSense, a leader in wireless monitoring and cooling optimization, by Panduit Corp., a company which offers unified physical infrastructure-based solutions. Six contracts were completed between May and June 2014. Some of the key players that won contracts were SemaConnect, C3 Energy, EnerNOC, and BYD Company. Nine fundraising events took place in May. Emera, South Carolina Electric & Gas Company, PAI Partners, The Carlyle Group, Hydrogenics Corporation, and Eneres Co. raised funds through private public offerings. Powerhouse Dynamics, EnergySavvy, and Earl Energy raised funds through venture financing. Other announcements were made in May regarding appointments, management changes and investment. A total of 13 projects were reported in May.
