Orangevale, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/24/2013 -- When Lake Appliance Repair, located in Sacramento, Ca started to add social media to their online presence they needed a way to introduce people to their new Facebook site. Founders of Lake Appliance, Scott and Krystle McConnell, thought up a creative way to do this, and also give back to the community in the process. Scott and Krystle organized a charity event on Facebook to donate 500$ to the charity that got the most votes after Lake Appliance Repair reached 500 Facebook Friends.
After a little while of voting and friending Lake Appliance reached their goal, and they reached a verdict on the winner as well. The winner was Orangevale Food Bank, an organization well loved by the community for feeding the hungry in our neighborhoods. “It was such a nice surprise to see the winner of the competition be a charity I already have such a high regard for” said Scott McConnell.
Orangevale Food Bank was formed by several members of the community in Orangevale working diligently to lay the groundwork for a local food bank and family resource center. In our current economy, several hundred families struggle each month to provide basic food for their families. The Orangevale Food bank rallies the community behind these families to help them during these difficult times, and provide assistance temporarily while they work toward meeting these needs on their own.
A Lake Appliance team including Scott McConnell, and a few technicians went down to Orangevale to donate the extra large check made specially for Orangevale Food Bank. Orangevale Food Bank happily accepted the comically large check, although they were probably wondering how the bank would react when they brought the check in to cash it.
During Lake Appliance Repair's visit to the Orangevale Food Bank one of the Food Bank Volunteers mentioned that their industrial refrigerator used for food storage had broken down recently. Since there just happened to be several Lake Appliance refrigerator technicians handy, the perfect team for the job was already assembled, and they were happy to jump on the task. They fixed the fridge in no time at all, and free of charge. “Bringing in the check for the Orangevale Food Bank, and being able to fix the refrigerator were such enjoyable, memorable experiences for me and my team” Scott said.
