Leading IT Infrastructure Installer, Network Drops, Explains How to Keep Server Rooms Organized

Allentown, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/26/2016 -- Most small businesses have dedicated spaces, usually in walk-in closets, for maintaining their servers. Because of the slew of cables that must run in and out of them, those rooms can easily become uncontrollably cluttered. Thus, the premier voice and data cabling provider in Monmouth County, NJ, released a write up that offers tips on how to keep spaces as such organized.

"Sometimes we can spend what feels like the whole day just detangling Ethernet cables at our clients' facilities," said Scott Fcasni, Network Drops' founder. "If we can help them get more organized, everyone benefits." His article runs through a series of tips that will help companies do just that.

For one, the write-up urged businesses to invest in properly sized racks. Server equipment is designed to fit various iterations of the universal racking system of measurement known as RUs, or rack units. For example, companies that own 3U servers, sensibly, should purchase 3U rack mounts. According to Fcasni, that will reduce clutter, and optimize on valuable server room real estate.

He also urged readers to spend time organizing cables, and most importantly, investing in patch bays. They act as centralized hubs into which all wires can run, and are exponentially beneficial in helping to keep infrastructures organized.

Fcasni also recommended that IT departments label, Velcro and zip tie their cables, and cut them down to proper size. "Nothing wastes space and creates an open invitation for tangling more than a 20-foot cable that runs between two ports that are inches away from each other," Fcasni said. "Cutting them down to size will save a lot of frustration and confusion."
