Local Gym Owner and Team to Raise Money for Nicaragua Med Fest & Feed My Starving Children on October 18th

St. Charles, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/17/2014 -- A local Aurora, Dixon, & St. Charles gym owner will be working out, alongside a team of others, to raise some money for Nicaragua Med Fest & Feed My Starving Children on October 18th.

Bob Garon, Synergy Kettlebell Training owner, and his wife Lisa, are hosting a charity event on October 18th which is the 5th annual One Hour Long Cycle.

“We have had the opportunity to work with these two organizations in the past and we’re looking forward to supporting such an excellent cause in what they do for the community and their impact worldwide,” Garon said.

The fundraiser will take place at Bob’s Synergy Kettlebell Training gym in the northeast side of St. Charles, IL. Participants will be performing Long Cycle (clean & jerk with a Kettlebell), an exercise where they use core and leg strength to swing the bell from between their legs, to the rack position which rests the elbow on the torso and Kettlebell on the chest and shoulder area. Then while using leg and core strength, the Kettlebell is launched overhead into a straight arm lockout, and this movement is repeated for one hour straight. Participants use any Kettlebell weight they want and are able to switch arms whenever they choose as well as team up for a relay of 2-4 others, but the bell must not be set on the floor until the hour is completed.

Every year we choose a charity and do a marathon Long Cycle to raise money for a special charity.

This year, our 5th Annual One Hour Long Cycle event, will raise money for Feed My Starving Children & Med Fest Nicaragua 2015. Both of these charities/ministries are very close to our heart. Feed My Starving Children is a local non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults volunteer to hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and they ship these meals to nearly 70 countries around the world.

January 2015 Bob, Lisa, & Brayden Garon will be traveling to Masaya, Nicaragua to participate in the Way Of The Cross “Med Fest”. They will be supporting the doctors, nurses, and dentists as they provide complimentary care for the people in the worst part of Nicaragua who are in desperate need of medical care. The Nicaraguan people can barely afford to eat and medical care is scarce. Med Fest is designed to provide the care they need at no cost to them. During Med Fest we will have several opportunities to be handing out Feed My Starving Children manna packs to the villagers.

In previous years, the Guinness Book of World Records was on hand, and records were set for the most people lifting weights in the same place, at the same time for one hour straight. There were many people who started and finished the one hour event, and nobody put their weights down. They all do it together.

Sergey Rachinskiy, one of the most decorated kettlebell sport athletes and coaches in all of Russia, set a world record for the most reps performed with one 24kg (53lb) kettlebell. He did 915 reps in one hour.
