The recent premium growth in the non-life sector has been predicated on a improving domestic economy and increased auto sales however with the introduction of greater product innovation it has the potential to grow premiums(Y-O-Y) further over the forecast period. While the life insurance has not had a comparatively successful year changes in regulation auger well for the long term prospects of the sector.
As of late 2014 the news flow suggest that long term prospects look on the whole positive for the life and non-life sector in the region. Malaysia is beginning to catch up with many other South East Asian which have seen massive growth in new business formation and profitability in the region, for example in AXAs most recent interim reports they had put a large amount of their new business growth in Asia down to recent surges in demand for non-life products (Particularly motor insurance) in Malaysia. Better than expected economic results in Malaysia also look like they will facilitate further growth in the non-life sector as the growth in GDP will result in higher disposable incomes which should translate into a higher demand for insurance products further down the line.

On the other hand while the life market in Malaysia did not produce equally positive results in particular the takaful sector has done poorly there is underlying factors in the sector which suggest that it could increase growth throughout the forecast period. One of these is the fact that much of the larger MNC such as AXA, AIG and Allianz are planning to increase product innovation and diversify products in Malaysia.
