Manufacturers are responding quickly to this trend, with Nestle introducing more instant speciality varieties and launching its Nescafe Dolce Gusto pods.
Nestle Argentina SA and Cafes La Virginia SA led the category in 2012, together commanding a 53% value share of sales (65% when including JG Padilla, a subsidiary of La Virginia). Nestle derives the majority of its share from its instant coffee brands although over the last few years its share has been boosted by the robust growth of its Nespresso and Dolce Gusto brands in fresh ground coffee pods. Cafes La Virginia (including JG Padilla) ranked first in fresh coffee and second in instant coffee in 2012. Both companies have strong brands and well-developed distribution networks.
