Despite this trend unit prices for socks declined 1%. Many consumers opted to more expensive varieties which featured bright colours, polka dots and other patterned designs but the majority of socks sales continue to be commodity purchases. Basic socks continue to make up the majority of the category and their low prices kept unit prices down.
