Men and Women Can Both Be Infected with HPV; the CBCD Reviews the Medical Evidence

“The risk of HPV infection is exactly the same in men and women,” according to the South African Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. (1)

Rochester, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/22/2015 -- "Infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV)? The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD), recommends bringing a new study on HPV remedies to your doctor's attention." – Greg Bennett, CBCD

The South African Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists argues that "vaccinating boys as well as girls for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) would have a dual advantage as it would protect both men and their female partners from infection." (1) Dr. Hennie Botha noted that "Although women have a much higher risk of developing cancer than men, the virus also causes cancer in men. About one in every four head and neck cancers are associated with HPV … (and) ... the risk of HPV infection is exactly the same in men and women." (1) Dr. Botha is the Head of gynaecological oncology at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

When it comes to prevention, Dr. Shabir Madhi said that "men are the ones who transmit HPV to women. "If you want to interrupt the circulation of the virus sooner, then you should be targeting boys as well. But in addition to that there're also complications of HPV infection in boys, men can develop diseases like penile or throat cancer, as well as genital warts, because of HPV." (1) Dr. Madhi is the The head of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases in South Africa.

The CBCD recommends that men talk to their physicians about two clinically proven products, which were shown to reduce symptoms of an HPV infection in two separate studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The formula of these products was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the formula is effective against the HPV and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, "individuals infected with the HPV…reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with (the formula)." (2) The study authors also wrote that "we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms." (2)

New HPV infections are found in up to 39% of men every year. In men with healthy immune systems, HPV infections are cleared in 6 months or longer. However, in about 10% of all cases, HPV infections will persist. This can cause a variety of serious health problems. (3). For men, an HPV infection can lead to conditions such as: genital warts, penile, anal, and oropharyngeal cancer (head and neck cancer) (3).

The CDC notes that "HPV may … be passed on during oral sex and genital-to-genital contact. HPV can be passed on between straight and same-sex partners-even when the infected partner has no signs or symptoms." (4).

Are there treatments available against the HPV?

"There are no drugs approved against the HPV. Current treatments include procedures, such as cryotherapy, conization, and the Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP). These procedures use liquid nitrogen, a surgical knife (scalpel), a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser, or electrical current to remove the abnormal growths caused by the HPV. These growths include cells that harbor the active virus. The procedures do not target cells with the latent virus. Since they do not remove the latent virus, these procedures only produce a temporary remission." (2) In contrast, the studies mentioned above discuss two products, which were designed to target the latent HPV.

"We recommend that men of all ages practice safe sex, and bring the studies mentioned above to their doctors' attention." - Greg Bennett, CBCD
