More Joint Pain Sufferers Report Side Effects from NSAIDs

Portland, OR -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/20/2014 -- NSAIDs or Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs are considered by many people as a great option for pain relief, especially those who are suffering from arthritis. However, its popularity has also been declining due to the unpleasant experiences suffered by those who use it.

According to research, there is an increasing number of people who have reported experiencing side effects while using NSAIDs. The side effects vary from one person to another, but there are those that occur more commonly. The most common side effects include headache, rash, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, decreased appetite and constipation.

“While many arthritis sufferers use NSAIDs to achieve a certain level of pain relief, it is unfortunate that many experience a series of side effects that make them suffer more, ” said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O’Sullivan.

There are also individuals who are allergic to NSAIDs and using the drug can induce an allergic reaction. Those who have asthma may also experience serious reactions when taking NSAIDs.

Studies showed that major side effects of NSAIDs, such as liver failure, GI bleeding and ulcers, cause 17,000 deaths and 100,000 hospitalizations in the United States every year. However, further studies also found that a large number of consumers are unaware of how serious the risks are in using the drugs.

The use of NSAIDs has been considered a medical predicament and a silent epidemic that not many people are aware of. What is even more alarming, is that the number of deaths and hospitalizations associated with NSAIDs has remained unchanged for more than a decade, despite better knowledge of the dangers.

“What makes the use of NSAIDs even more dangerous is that it increases the risk of intestinal and stomach adverse reactions that are potentially fatal. These reactions can also take place without any warning at all,” added O’Sullivan.

The American Journal of Medicine found that 107,000 individuals are hospitalized every year for gastrointestinal complications that are related to the use of NSAIDs.

Due to the increasing number of people who experience side effects from using NSAIDs, many health experts are starting to recommend glucosamine supplements as a safer option for joint pain relief http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4/ie=UTF8?&m=A3OG9DHZ3GI58O&keywords=glucosamine
