More Studies Conducted to Test Use of Botox Injections for Arthritis Pain Relief

Portland, OR -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/12/2014 -- Botox injections are performed to reduce the visibility of wrinkles, commonly in the facial areas. They are also conducted to prevent migraines and treat problems such as excessive sweating. However, there is another use being investigated that arthritis sufferers are excited about.

More studies are being conducted to see whether botox injections can provide arthritis pain relief. There have been studies that found botox injections to be quite helpful in reducing arthritis pain especially in the hip, knee, and shoulder.

The participants in these studies have reported reduction in arthritis pain and improvement in mobility after botox injections. These injections take care of paralyzing muscle activity through its botulinum toxin. This toxin has been used for medicinal purposes and works by hindering the chemical signal transmission between the brain and nerves.

Fibromyalgia patients also reported getting some relief after botox injections and this relief lasted for three to four months. Fibromyalgia is an arthritis-related condition and it is characterized by muscle pain. However, there are many fibromyalgia symptoms that stayed uninterrupted despite the application of botox injections.

Although the results from those studies were promising, they have not definitively proven that botox injections were an ideal treatment for arthritis pain. Experts suggest that patients should wait for about eight days to see the results. However, they also discourage frequent administration of the injections as it can potentially cause one to develop immunity to the botulinum toxin.

While botox injections have gained the trust of many arthritis sufferers because it can be effective when administered correctly, there are also those who prefer to use other treatment options. Botox injections can be expensive, with an average price tag of $400 per injection.

Herbal products such as curcumin supplements are one of the most popular pain relief alteratives used by many arthritis sufferers nowadays. Curcumin supplements are believed to be safer than drugs and also have longer-lasting joint health benefits than botox.

As studies continue, health experts are continually suggesting the use of curcumin supplements. Curcumin has high levels of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can significantly help to reduce the pain and swelling associated with arthritis.

There are quite a number of curcumin supplements nowadays and experts suggest that consumers should be very careful in choosing the right product. There are certain factors that patients should consider such as if the product comes from a reputable herbal company, if it’s made from high-quality ingredients and if it is produced in accordance with the manufacturing standards set by the Food and Drug Administration (http://www.amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-Complex-BioPerine-Bio-availability/dp/B00JA4TLTI/?ie=UTF8?&m=A3OG9DHZ3GI58O&keywords=curcumin).
