Mother and Daughter Team Walk Away with Awards for Outstanding Influence in Social Media

The mother and daughter team whom run Couponmamacita.com and Stemlatina.com, have walked away with two awards showing brains and talent run through the family.

 

Orlando, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/25/2014 -- When a blog or website catches on it catches on fast. That is the case with CouponMamacita.com and Stemlatina.com. These with their blogs and social media presence both winning awards at the #Latism14 #TopBlogueras award event in Los Angeles on November 13-16, 2014. The bigger story is that the same family runs the websites. One website is run by Myrah Duque and the other is run by a her daughter, Marilu.

In November 2014, the mother and daughter team were invited to Los Angeles to attend the Latinos in Tech Innovation and Social Media (Latism) awards event founded by Ana Roca. To their surprise, Myrah won an award for Best Parenting Latin Blogger for her website Couponmamacita.com. Then her daughter, Marilu, won First prize of the #ElHackathon contest for creating an app called “Hot or Not: Vegan Edition.” The #ElHackathon is a 48 hour event where developers, entrepreneurs, innovators and designers meet and work with code to learn and try to solve problems that plague society.

With 152 million blogs on the Internet, it is a rarity to find two blogs that have been recognized in such a huge way and are helping not only the Latino community but also everyone. A mom that needed to save money, by clipping coupons started Couponmamacita.com. When she found out how easy it was, she wanted to share her knowledge. That knowledge has ranked her website 66,220 among all websites in the world. They now have 61,427 Facebook likes and 33,504 Twitter followers. People know that this is the website to go to if they want to know what deals are happening now and where they are. She shares her blog in English and does have a Spanish version Mamacitalacuponera.com. She has also started a travel site Mamastraveltips.com. She has been featured in NBC Latino, Latina.com, Baby Center, The Simple Truth Foundation, Cricket Wireless, DiasGrandiosos.com, to name a few.

Marilu took her love of science and turned it into a website. This high school senior's website Stemlatina.com is based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The websites talks about scholarships and STEM subjects. Just recently Marilu received an Ann Power grant to start her own STEM and Business program in her community. Her goal is to educate girls on the importance of careers in STEM. The program is called "STEM Vixens." She regularly gives guest speeches to encourage girls to consider this field of study and has become an inspirational role model for the younger generation.

About Myrah and Marilu
Myrah was a former Coldwell Banker real estate agent who after the economy crisis, found out that she had cut expenses for her family. Discovered the world of couponing, loved it to the point it became an obsession. She launched her websites as a way to show friends, relatives and the community how they could save money too. She is married to Osvaldo, mother to Marilu and served as President of various PTAs.
