Lewes, DE -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/08/2015 -- Mozambique's freight transport sector will continue to expand at a robust pace in 2015 and 2016, albeit from a low base in the case of some modes - air freight in particular, for which volumes will remain very low for the foreseeable future. Growth will be driven in part by a strong growth outlook for the consumer, but for the most part it will remain the transport related to the primary industries - mining in particular - that will drive growth. Although coal prices have tumbled, the sector will continue to expand rapidly, increasing volumes in road and rail freight. Transit trade from hinterland countries will continue to be important, although Mozambique loses out on most of this business given its proximity to South Africa, the best-developed country in the region. Imports related to the nascent offshore gas sector will also drive freight transport volumes, as capital goods imports are ramped up - although this has been somewhat jeopardised by the discovery of the giant Zohr gas field offshore Egypt.

Mozambique's trade will enjoy strong nominal and real growth in 2015 and 2016, and over the course of our medium-term forecast period to 2019 - although it will taper off modestly towards the end of our forecast period. Coal exports will remain steady, while capital goods imported related to infrastructure projects will see imports expand.

Steady growth patterns will underpin all three sectors of the freight industry in the medium term, with the rail sector achieving the best results. The focus on Asian economic integration and improved trade links throughout the region means that Thailand is well-placed to capitalise on investment in transport infrastructure, both from inside and outside the country thanks to its importance as a vital transport hub.

Thailand's total trade will grow slowly in 2015, by 0.1%, after negative figures in 2014 (-2.38%) and this growth will pick up considerably in the medium term. Imports will remain in negative growth this year with exports seeing positive figures, until 2016 when both will improve to similar levels. Though deflationary pressures and increasing debt continue to hamper growth, there is scope for public investment and trade agreements within the Asian region to boost figures.

The Turkish freight transport sector will record growth across transport modes despite the lacklustre outlook for the economy. The outperforming freight mode in terms of y-o-y tonnage growth is set to be the air freight sector, which will record growth of 6.7% for the year. The other modes will record smaller increases, with road at 4.1% and rail freight volumes at 3.4% y-o-y. Increases will be driven by solid performances in the pharmaceutical sector and by the country's role as a regional logistics hub. Having enjoyed policy continuity under the Justice and Development Party (AKP) for over a decade, Turkey is now entering a period of heightened political uncertainty that will weigh heavily on confidence and investment while impeding the legislative and reform agenda. Making matters worse, the security situation in the country has deteriorated markedly following a breakdown of the government's three-yearold peace process with the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
