Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/20/2016 -- New York native and creator of My Father's House David Greenwald began his filmmaking education at New York University. He attended the Tisch School of the Arts at the university, where he achieved an MFA in filmmaking. Greenwald began his media career as a music video editor after founding his own company called Ground Control Pictures. His work in this field includes editing videos and concert films for incredibly popular music artists around the world, such as Tupac Shakur, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, Eddie van Halen, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Carly Simon, B.B. King, the Beastie Boys, and Luciano Pavaroti. Greenwald's first work in film was actually a film he wrote and directed as a part of his graduate program at New York University. This film, which was titled The Well, was nominated for a Student Academy Award.

After creating The Well and working as a music video editor at Ground Control Pictures, Greenwald began branching out to edit the films of various world-renowned directors. His film editing credits include Jonathan Demme's documentary Cousin Bobby, Steven M. Martin's feature film Theremin: An Electric Odyssey, I.F.C. Productions' Ash Wednesday, and Ed Burns of Paramount Classics' Sidewalks of New York. The films Greenwald edited were featured at several prominent film festivals around the world and won numerous awards. Cousin Bobby was honored with a spot at the Cannes Film Festival; Theremin: An Electric Odyssey was featured at the popular and respected Sundance Film Festival and won the Filmmakers Trophy Award for Best Documentary there. Greenwald has also edited many television productions throughout his career. His T.V. editing credits include Oprah Winfrey's made-for-TV movie Girlfriend, PBS's Beyond the Moon, and Spike Lee of HBO's The Curt Flood Story. Greenwald was recognized for his work in film when he won a prestigious Emmy Award for his work as the editor of Girlfriend.

Greenwald is still working in the film industry and has begun writing and directing more of his own films rather than editing the work of other directors; he has found specific success in the world of documentary film. Along with his creation of My Father's House, he also recently produced and edited a short documentary on Ornette Coleman and is currently in the process of creating a feature documentary that follows the rise and fall of former king of Biotech David Blech.

Although it will be screened in the Short Film Corner at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, My Father's House premiered in March of 2016 at the prestigious Queens World Film Festival, where it was honored as an Official Selection at the popular festival.

About My Father's House
My Father's House is a personal film for David Greenwald. Although he has directed, edited, and created other documentaries, this short documentary film delves into the history of his own family. My Father's House juxtaposes the environments of the home where Greenwald himself grew up in the borough of Queens, New York, with the home and town in Eastern Europe where Greenwald's father grew up during the violent and terrifying chaos of World War II. Greenwald's father serves as the protagonist of his new short documentary film, which offers a brave and profound demonstration of the horrific reality of World War II and the suffering the individuals who were caught up in the environment of the war, like Greenwald's father, were forced to endure. Glimpsed through the lens of Greenwald and his fathers' contrasting early lives, My Father's House reveals the power of family, community faith, hope, and fierce determination, as significant combatants of the lasting emotional and physical horrors of World War II. The short documentary film honors the bravery of Greenwald's father as viewers are treated to a powerful glimpse at his unbreakable spirit and stubborn determination to build his own destiny despite the war raging around him.

Attendees of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival do not want to miss the rare opportunity to catch the screening of My Father's House, a powerfully emotional and historic masterpiece by rising filmmaker David Greenwald on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Palais G at 2 PM.
