The study was run for four months and it monitored the results obtained using each product for grafting human extraction sockets. Sixty patients were recruited and designated to the groups. The study, titled An Evaluation and Comparison of the Efficacy of Nanocrystalline Calcium Sulfate Bone Grafts (NanoGen) and Medical-Grade Calcium Sulfate Bone Grafts (DentoGen) in Human Extraction Sockets, monitored the effectiveness of both products up to 4 months. The mean percentage of actual bone formed by both products after 4 months was an impressive 51%. This was observed histologically. The conclusion of the study reads "both the materials investigated in the study showed excellent bone forming capacity, but the nanocrystalline version (NanoGen) of calcium sulfate was found to have clinical and biologic advantages over DentoGen".
