Network Drops Explains Its Clients' Cabling Options

Allentown, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/27/2016 -- The premier voice and data cabling company serving Monmouth County, NJ and surrounding areas, Network Drops, often receives questions from clients about the various types of cables available for their business' networking infrastructures. To address the common concern, Network Drops just released a write-up laying out the three most popular models available on the market these days.

According to the company, category 5 (cat5 and cat5e), category 6 (cat6) and optical fiber are the three most used cabling models.

"Cat5 cables are actually quite old, stemming back to the 19th century," said Scott Fcasni, who heads up Network Drops, continuing to explain that "cat5e and cat6 copper cables are more present today because of their enhanced capabilities." In the article, he said that that cat5 and cat5e cables involve copper wiring that feature twisted conductors to eliminate electromagnetic interference (EMI). A standard Ethernet cable is an example of a cat5e cable.

Cat6 cables are much like cat5 and cat5e, except information is deployed virtually twice as fast.

"Fiber optics is a whole different ballgame," Fcasni said. According to his article, they are the fastest and most reliable cables available in any market. They employ a phenomenon called total internal reflection to deploy data in light through a system of mirrors, and because electricity is not involved, there is no potential for relevant interference. Fiber optics is relatively expensive, however, and is only necessary for some, not all, infrastructural situations.
