Outdoor markets are not common in the country with only a few taking place during the year, thus the majority of street stalls/kiosks are based in shopping malls, and focusing on sweet treats such as chocolate fondue or fudge. The majority of outlets are thus in an internal corner format, with vendors and hawker centres not being very common in the country. Thus, the growth in the population coupled with rising disposable incomes in the country, served to push growth in 2013.
There were no chained street stalls/kiosks in 2013, with independents dominating the category. Independent outlets include Sweet Factory and Strawcolate, which focus on confectionery and other sweet treats alongside a few stalls offering different types of tea and perfumes. Operators are mainly based in shopping malls.
