New Software Program Offers Hope for Gestational Diabetes

Marina Del Rey, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/09/2014 -- In response to new research on gestational diabetes published in the British Medical Journal, personalized health program ph360 released new programs today to support blood sugar balance and weight loss for women. The study indicates that healthy lifestyle habits and weight could decrease pregnant women's risk of gestational diabetes by almost half. The American Diabetes Association has found that babies whose mothers suffered from gestational diabetes are more likely to become obese as adults. ph360's individualized diet and exercise plans will help women avoid the risk of gestational diabetes and support individuals whose mothers may have suffered from gestational diabetes while pregnant.

Gestational diabetes occurs as a result of high glucose levels in the blood stream during pregnancy, and increases the risk of type 2 diabetes diagnosis 5 to 10 years post-pregnancy as well as increasing likelihood of obesity in the child. The study showed that being overweight or obese before pregnancy was the most significant cause of gestational diabetes. Yet the insights these studies reveal may only lead to frustration for millions of women who unsuccessfully seek to lose weight each year.

In response, ph360 has released new software that employs a research-based algorithm that integrates the sciences of endocrinology, epigenetics, and anthropometry to deliver personalized weight loss programs. Particularly in pregnancy, hormone levels and nutritional needs vary greatly. Yet ph360 offers a new and purportedly easy way for women to learn about the foods that will not only nourish them, but actually help them lose weight.

Dr. Phillip Wuth, MD of Carina Medical and Specialist Centre was excited about the implications of such research to stimulate improved self care in women of childbearing age: "The more women can learn about the best ways to care for themselves and their future children while pregnant, the healthier they will be during this time and in the years to come."

But beyond basic prevention, ph360 offers targeted insight that will help women to balance blood sugar levels throughout pregnancy and after, too. Personal health expert and ph360 CEO Matt Riemann commented, "Despite the trend towards obesity, the advent of personalized health technology can help people reverse imbalances in diet and lifestyle. This research should inspire women to discover the individualized path to health that works for them."
