Office of Dr. Matheson, MD, FACS Publishes Key Points Concerning Mommy Makeovers

Mommy Makeover cosmetic surgery packages are tailored for each woman to address issues that arise after pregnancy, Dr. Matheson's office reports

Denver, CO -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/05/2014 -- Recently, a new set of cosmetic procedures has spread across the world of plastic surgery. Commonly referred to as a "Mommy Makeover," this group of procedures is meant to restore a woman's body to its pre-pregnancy appearance or even improve it beyond that state. While this general goal is simple enough, it's harder to pin down just what a Mommy Makeover actually entails. It turns out that there is a very good reason for this.

"A Mommy Makeover isn't a pre-packaged group of procedures," said Jennifer Ashton, a representative of the office of Dr. Matheson, MD, FACS. "Instead, the procedures are selected to match the needs of each patient. This means that every makeover is customized. Since no two people are alike, each makeover is a bit different from every other one."

In many women, at least two areas of the body will be adjusted in a Mommy Makeover: The breasts and the tummy. Breasts tend to sag in the years after pregnancy, in part because they become swollen with milk during and after childbirth and then deflate once the baby is weaned. For many women, a bit of pregnancy fat will remain in the tummy area after pregnancy as well, and will resist efforts to remove it by dieting. Therefore, breast lifts and tummy tucks are very common aspects of these makeovers.

Liposuction is another common aspect of a Mommy Makeover. This process allows the body to be given a sculpted look by selectively removing fat deposits from key areas. The buttocks, hips, upper arms, and even the neck or face can be targeted with liposuction. Liposuction isn't done for weight loss, however. Instead, it's used to sculpt areas that need more shaping even after a woman has reached her goal weight.

According to http://mommymakeoverscolorado.com, not all women need all of the possible Mommy Makeover procedures. Some will get their breasts lifted or augmented, while others may only get a tummy tuck or liposuction. Others will choose to get two or even all three of the typical makeover procedures done. Which procedures will be suggested depends on how the pregnancy and its aftermath has affected a particular patient's body.

"With the careful application of cosmetic surgery, it's completely possible to get your body back after pregnancy," Ashton enthused. "Specific procedures and requirements are discussed during a consultation with our doctors, so women will know exactly what to expect when they go ahead with a Mommy Makeover."
