New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/21/2014 -- The 25th anniversary of the internet was received with mixed feelings by colleges which are struggling to compete with online learning programs.
Since the invention of the World Wide Web over two decades ago, the amount of online learning programs has skyrocketed. As increasing numbers of students are choosing to pursue their education through the internet, colleges and universities are having to make huge cut-backs just keep going.
Community colleges have been hit particularly hard, with overall enrollment down in 2014 compared to other years, a trend the Washington Post says “underscore[s] a challenge for community college leaders across the country.”
While these trends have been greeted with dismay by college presidents and faculty, not everyone sees it as negative. In an interview today, Graham Taylor, principal of the Taylor Study Method, revealed that our country is in the midst of an education revolution that is forcing traditional colleges to reevaluate their concepts of learning.
“What I found in developing our EPPP Study Materials,” said Dr. Taylor, “is that online education is not just affecting internet learning programs. It is also forcing traditional colleges to back up and re-evaluate whether the content they are offering is truly efficient, cost-effective, and competitive.”
Speaking of his own experience in building a successful EPPP practice tests to train psychology students to pass their board of psychology licensure exams, Dr. Taylor added, “Colleges often promise to train their students for a career, yet end up leaving them woefully unprepared. As more options become available for online education, we should expect to see only the best educational programs to survive.”
