Palmer Trinity Students Participate in Shark Tagging

Recently twenty Palmer Trinity School (PTS) students and members of the School’s science department joined the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science on a shark tagging trip, as part of the University’s Shark Research & Conservation Program.

Palmetto Bay, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/12/2016 -- The 1-day research expedition departed from Crandon Marina on Key Biscayne and was filmed for season 3 of Xploration Awesome Planet, a nationally syndicated educational TV series hosted by Philippe Cousteau Jr., grandson of the legendary Jacques Cousteau.

"Our forth shark tagging trip with the University of Miami was an exceptionally interesting opportunity for our students to experience the scientific method in practice and in the field," stated Dr. Caroline M. Hammerschlag-Peyer, Palmer Trinity School science department.

As volunteers, the students participated in taking length measurements, tagging, assisting with blood centrifugation, taking tissue samples and making scientific observations involving sharks.
