Summary

The petrochemical industry witnessed very few activities in May. Most news for the industry came from the US, where ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell received environment permits from Environment Protection Agency (EPA) for their olefin plants. BASF also announced that it is evaluating a methane-to-propylene plant in the US. In Sweden, Jacobs received an Engineering, Procurement and Construction management (EPC), and project management services contract from Borealis.

In Russia, Stavrolen resumed operation at its olefin plants in Budyonnovsk after a fire forced the plant to close in February 2014. In Saudi Arabia, Saudi International Petrochemical Company (Sipchem) completed preventive maintenance turnaround and began plant operations. In China, BASF and SINOPEC announced a new Neopentyl Glycol (NPG) plant and in Iran, Kavian Petrochemical announced that its olefins phase two plant is scheduled to start operation by 2015.
