Manchester, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/15/2015 -- Lucy Ridges is a photographer and an artist based in Manchester who specialises in fine art images that tell stories and take their viewers on a journey. After spending a month in Skagastrond, Iceland with 11 other artists as part of the NES Artist residency she has been on a journey of discovery herself, returning to the UK to infuse her private and commercial shoots with the techniques this inspiring island has shown her.

Having trained in portrait photography Lucy Ridges' style is elegant and iconic. During her time in Iceland Lucy was challenged to find new ways of capturing her subjects and the unfamiliar scenery of an elemental landscape in inventive ways with minimal resources. Meeting other artists from all over the world and exchanging ideas was a crucial part of her process. The purposeful stripping back of supplies and studio space in an isolated location pushed her work in unexpected and exciting directions. During her month in Skagastrond Lucy focused on experimenting with production techniques she had never used before such as collage and hand colouring her photographs. These creative investigations have ultimately enriched the depth of Lucy's work and enabled a huge leap forward in the way she approaches every shoot.

Lucy blogged, "I have no idea what twists and turns my work is going to take out here. That was a big part of why I chose this place. I wanted to face challenges. There's no photo studio, no film developing lab, no negative scanner, no models, no make up artists, stylists, no props and no daylight. It's like Challenge Anneka."
