Surrey, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/22/2016 -- If plans are approved cheap accommodation could soon be up for grabs in Kirkby, in the form of steel shipping container flats. Planning permission for the area where the shipping container homes are proposed to be is currently for two semi-detached houses; however Japanese knotweed has scared off all investors – making this a likely opportunity.

The plan is to covert cost-effective cargo containers into six small apartments, each completed with roof terraces and encompassing decorative cladding with attractive glass fronts. Each container flat would be 35 sq. metre and cost as little as £34,167 to complete as opposed to the £117,500 that it could cost to build a semi-detached house. Detailed drawings of the plans are available, showing how the space would be strategically divided into a kitchen, living room, bedroom and a shower room.

A spokesperson from the shipping container company Containental was keen to comment saying, "We really hope that these plans get approved as in recent months we have seen a surge in people purchasing large storage containers from ourselves to make guest accommodation in their gardens, and it would be great to see more people actually choosing container homes as their ultimate living choice."
