Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/11/2014 -- Polishes continued to decline in 2013 due to a change in product demand, as Swedes were more commonly purchasing products that were pre-coated and of a different material to save them the hassle and time of having to polish their floors, furniture and metal products. There was also a trend towards furniture and floors that had a vintage look, where these products tend to be more scuffed and damaged. A trend that again lowered demand for polishes. Varnished floors for which floor polishes were normally used were no longer in demand due to the prevalence of oiled wood floors. Finally, broadlooms had also made a small comeback in Sweden, for which polishes are not needed.

Competitive Landscape

Spotless Boston Scandinavia led sales of polishes in 2013 with a 30% value share and sales of SEK20 million. The company held the leading position due to its well-known products within shoe polish, and accounted for a 56% value share of this category in 2013.

Excluding shoe polish, polishes is expected to perform poorly over the forecast period. Swedish consumers will continue to look for products that do not demand much care and that will save them both time and work involved when using polish products.
