Sisters, OR -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/09/2014 -- Preston Thompson Guitars announced that it has partnered with Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and Acoustic Music Pro to stage the Picker's Choice Flatpick Challenge. The winner of the contest will receive one of Preston Thompson's much sought-after handmade dreadnought guitars, with a variety of other prizes also being available. Details of the contest, which involves submitting video samples of each contestant's flatpicking technique, can be found in the "Blog" section of Preston Thompson Guitars' website.
"Having moved into our new workshop in Sisters only a few months ago," Preston Thompson said, "we're thrilled to be able to offer the Picker's Choice Flatpick Challenge with our partners. The guitars we produce here at Preston Thompson Guitars are beloved by players of bluegrass and folk music around the world, so the winner is going to be one happy picker." Flatpicking is a guitar-playing style most closely associated with bluegrass and traditional American country music. Players making use of the style leverage the speed available through advanced picking technique to produce fast, intricate, melodic lines that greatly exceed in complexity the simpler rhythmic effects created by strumming chords. The Picker's Choice Flatpick Challenge is meant to provide exposure and recognition to some of the best musicians playing in this style today.
Led by master luthier Preston Thompson, who designs the company's guitars, Preston Thompson Guitars has been producing high-end, handmade acoustic instruments for over thirty years. Most of the company's products are based on the designs perfected by the C.F Martin company around eighty years ago, with these vintage guitars being some of the most highly regarded of all time. Carefully crafted by hand, one at a time, the instruments produced by Preston Thompson Guitars make use of the best available woods and other materials to deliver great beauty, playability, and unmatched tone. The heirloom-quality instruments produced by the company, in fact, only improve in tone as they age, just like the famous antique Martin guitars they are inspired by.
"All of us here at Preston Thompson Guitars love music as much as we do the craft of creating beautiful guitars," Thompson concluded, "so we couldn't be more excited to hear and see what the entrants to The Picker's Choice Flatpick Challenge will produce. Please stop by our site to read up on the rules and check out some examples of what kind of amazing guitar the contest winner can expect." Entries to The Picker's Choice Flatpick Challenge will be accepted until August 31, and the contest is open to players the world over. Full rules can be found through links from the "Blog" section of Preston Thompson Guitars' official site, where details and photographs of the company's dreadnought guitars and other offerings can also be seen.
