Professional Visioncare Is Going to Haiti to Provide Expert Eye Care in the Mission Field

Lewis Center, OH -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/11/2019 -- Dr. Bill Lay, eye doctor at Professional Visioncare's offices in Lewis Center, Johnstown, and Westerville, OH, will soon be joining CrossEyed Missions on a trip to Haiti. There, he will help provide over 1,500 Haitians with eye exams, eyeglasses, and sunwear.

Dr. Lay's participation in CrossEyed Mission's journey is not the only way that Professional Visioncare will be partnering with this sight-giving charity. The popular optometry practice will also be sponsoring an eye exam in Haiti to match every eye exam that their eye doctors perform in Ohio. In addition, everyone who wants to contribute to the goal of improving eye care for Haitians is invited to drop off their old sunglasses at any Professional Visioncare office. Dr. Lay will bring the sunwear to Haiti for distribution. To show appreciation for everyone who gives a pair, donors will receive a $50 discount on non-prescription sunwear and a $100 discount on prescription sunglasses in all of Professional Visioncare's optical stores.

"Everyone deserves to see the world as clearly as possible, no matter where they live," says Dr. Bill Lay. "I am excited to join CrossEyed Missions and share my professional experience and our patients' sunglasses donations with the people of Haiti. I look forward to bringing the gift of sight to as many needy Haitians as possible."

CrossedEyed Missions was established as a non-profit charity dedicated to enhancing vision for all people – from young children to senior adults – who do not have access to quality eye care. Since the start of these missions, the volunteer eye doctors have provided thousands of eye exams and distributed thousands of pairs of eyeglasses, all free of charge. With no boundaries, CrossEyed Missions has journeyed to many needy regions, including Bolivia, Honduras, Guatemala, Haiti, and Peru. Until CrossEyed Missions came to visit, there were whole neighborhoods in these countries where the citizens were not able to focus on their surrounding landscapes or clearly see the faces of their families.

The upcoming February mission will travel to Saint-Marc, a historic seaport city in the Artibonite Department of Haiti. Even though the Greater Saint-Marc area is the fourth largest urban area in Haiti, it ranks very poorly in terms of medical services. Approximately 60% of the local population lives outside of town in the communal section where there is a lack of electricity, drainage systems, and potable water. Quality healthcare, such as basic eye exams and vision correction treatment is almost nonexistent.
