New Computer Technology research report from Business Monitor International is now available from Fast Market Research

Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/18/2014 -- Chile remains BMI's top IT market in Latin America despite its small population and economy. High spending among consumers has already resulted in the country having the highest PC penetration rate in the region, a fact that supports growth of software and IT services in the market - an important sign of market maturity. Nevertheless, there is still significant growth from hardware sales, with new form factors enabling volume growth to continue, even as the value of the market grows at a slower pace. Chile's forward-looking government supports the rate of ICT growth with key developments such as the Imagine Chile Digital Agenda for 2013-2010 and a move to encourage entrepreneurship among IT companies.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: We expect these to rise to CLP924bn in 2014, increasing at a CAGR of 7.8% to reach CLP1.25trn by 2018. Tablets support growth in the consumer , while upgrades to new software will encourage faster growth among enterprises throughout 2014.

Software Sales: CLP240bn in 2014 to CLP360bn by 2018, CAGR of 10.4% in local currency terms. Spending on enterprise software continues to grow as enterprises modernise and look to increase international competitiveness. However, piracy of software remains a drag on the market.

IT Services Sales: The fastest growing area of the market will be Chile's IT services, which will build on the already strong performance in hardware sales in previous years. Investment in data centres by major international providers including HP and IBM, as well as local companies such as Synapsis, look to tap into growing demand for cloud services from major verticals including utilities, financial services, government, telecoms and retail.

Key Trends And Developments

One feature of the government's drive to promote the development of the IT market that is starting to yield results is Chile's 2010 project 'Start-Up Chile'. By 2013 many local tech startups had received investment from international venture capital firms through the programme, with several now looking to expand internationally. Examples of the burgeoning startup scene in Chile include Doist, a provider of productivity software for individuals and groups, game developer IguanaBee, and business intelligence solutions and training provider Metric Arts. Metric Arts has already won business with major Chilean enterprises since being founded in 2007 and is included in BMI's new competitive landscape for the Chilean IT market.
