With the several days of rain that South Floridians have been dealing with, Hochman & Goldin reminds drivers to make sure they are following the proper rules of the road when driving in rainy conditions.
Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/23/2018 -- When driving in the rain, it is not uncommon to notice more than one driver using their hazard lights. This behavior may also appear when the conditions on the road are foggy.
While there may be good intentions behind it, drivers should keep in mind that operating a vehicle with the hazard lights on is against the law in Florida. A driver should only turn on the vehicle hazard lights if the vehicle is stopped or if there is an emergency. Additionally, vehicle hazard lights should only be used while the vehicle is in motion if it is part of a funeral procession.
A driver with their hazard lights during a heavy rainstorm may cause more harm than good as it may lead to a reduction in visibility. Someone who is driving behind the vehicle may end up confused, mistaking the vehicle for being stalled or stopped. It also places others at a greater risk of an accident due to the increased difficulty in determining whether the vehicle will be turning or if the driver is pressing on the brakes.
