Disorder in the Classroom-The eBook

Chicago, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/01/2011 -- Janice M. Hypolite’s experiences as a substitute teacher in the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) formed the basis of her book Disorder in the Classroom: or a Firsthand Account of Substitute Teaching in the Chicago Public Schools System. This is to announce the release of the eBook edition.

Back in 2009, education was just a footnote in the national dialogue of critically important issues. That has changed in these past two years. And in Chicago, that dialogue has reached incredible heights. The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has a new CEO; the entire school board has been reconstituted; the Chicago Teachers Union has a new president; Chicago has a new mayor; and, the state has passed new legislation regarding the public schools. That new legislation includes a longer school day, a longer school year and a higher percentage of union votes needed before teachers can strike.

In the public school debate, both sides seem to be defining their positions. At this time, they appear to be directly opposite in nature. With current budget deficits and the poor academic performance of the schools, the situation is dire.

Nationally, education is experiencing similar problems. Hopefully change for the better is on the horizon. And the catalyst to spur these changes may have been the publication of this book two years ago. It tends to provoke controversy. Find out about the classroom environments observed by Ms. Hypolite and how they were not conducive to teaching and learning.
