Cast a Line at Carolina, Kure, Wrightsville Beaches

North Carolina Beaches Offer Some Of The Best Fishing On The East Coast

Wilmington, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/13/2011 -- Aspiring anglers and seasoned fisherman alike go for the “big one” at Carolina, Kure and Wrightsville beaches year-round. As fall fishing season rolls in, visitors can reel in the day’s catch by venturing out on a charter for deep-sea fishing, casting a line off a local pier, or by taking their rod and reel and tackling the surf in one of these three communities.

Carolina Beach offers families options for an active day of fishing with more than 20 charter operations. The full-service Carolina Beach Fishing Pier, complete with a tackle shop and small restaurant, also makes a great hangout for teens. For more information about fishing at Carolina Beach, visit http://www.carolinabeachgetaway.com/fishing-center/.

Kure Beach is a fishing family’s paradise. Parents can teach their children the basics at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier, the oldest of its kind on the Atlantic coast. For more information about fishing at Kure Beach, visit http://www.visitkure.com/activities/boardwalk_pier.html or http://www.visitkure.com/activities/outdoor_recreation.html.

Visitors to Wrightsville Beach can catch a bevy of bluefish or enough grouper to feed a crowd without stepping far from their favorite vacation spot. Johnnie Mercer’s Pier and the Intracoastal Waterway are both excellent spots for a full day of fishing. Beachgoers can also expect high-energy fishing action this fall with several major area fishing tournaments. The 4th Annual Fisherman’s Post NC Flatfish Championship will be held at the Inlet Watch Yacht Club overlooking the Carolina Beach Inlet on Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17. Cash and prizes will be awarded in this benefit tournament for the Cape Fear College Marine Tech Club. Wrightsville Beach will host the Wild King Classic Fishing Tournament Friday, Sept. 23 through Sunday, Sept. 25 at the Wild Wing Café & Seapath Marina. All three area beaches will be involved in the Southeast King Mackerel Fall Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2. Tournament locations include the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier, Kure Beach Fishing Pier and Johnnie Mercer’s Pier, with weigh-ins and winners announced at Island Tackle & Hardware in Carolina Beach.
