N.C. State Treasurer Janet Cowell Joins North Carolina China Center Board of Directors

Nonprofit Board Adds State’s Top Financial Advisor

 

Research Triangle Park, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/30/2011 -- The North Carolina China Center (http://www.ncchinacenter.org/), housed at the World Trade Park in the headquarters building of Longistics (http://www.longistics.com), has announced that North Carolina State Treasurer Janet Cowell has joined its board of directors. Cowell became state treasurer in 2008, the first woman ever to do so in North Carolina. As the state’s financial advisor, Cowell oversees more than $74 billion in pension fund investments, which affects more than 850,000 public employees in North Carolina. Cowell gained her knowledge and experience in government operations from her time as a member of the North Carolina Senate and the Raleigh City Council.

DETAILS:
-Cowell was a Democratic member of the North Carolina Senate, where she represented Wake County.

-Cowell is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Asian History. She went on to attend Penn’s Wharton School of Business, earning her Master’s in business administration, and then attended The Lauder Institute where she received her Master’s in International Studies.
