Unemployment Rate Steady in Nevada, Hound Finds Near 5,500 Job Openings Across the State

 

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/26/2011 -- In September, the unemployment rate of Nevada stayed stable at 13.4 percent as jobless figures fell in all the major metropolitan areas of the state. But in spite of this Nevada's jobless rate in the Las Vegas saw area a decline in the, dropping to 13.6 percent from that of 14.3 percent in August.

The number of people unemployed dropped to 129,400 in September from that of 135,720 in August. According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, employment in manufacturing sector remained at 18,300 in Las Vegas. Employment in construction industry grew by 1,000 jobs bringing it to 41,900 in September. The hotel-casino category saw an increase of 800 jobs totaling it to 161,200 jobs. Trade, transportation, and utilities shed 100 jobs and are down by 5,400 jobs from September last year.

The Reno Spark also saw a slight decline, dipping to 12.6 percent. The unemployment rate in the Elko-Eureka region declined to 7.1 percent.

700 jobs were added in Reno-Sparks by employers, but on an over-the-year basis it is still down by 3,100 positions. Job levels in the Carson City shed 100 jobs and are down by 500 jobs from September a year ago.
