Ugly People Make The Best Bosses

Coventry, West Midlands -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/28/2011 -- Lopsided people make the best bosses because they work harder to get attention, scientists say.

Scientific research carried out at Aston University found that people with asymmetrical looks were better motivators.

Researchers gave 42 teams of students a five month task in which they had to market and sell a car, with one member appointed as CEO of each group, and those with "odd" features fared better.

They measured the leaders' features including ear length, wrist width and finger length to determine how symmetrical they were before analysing the teams' performance over the year. In every category measured, including the happiness of the leaders and their workers, the performance of the teams and even the profit the groups made made, those managed by more asymmetrical leaders scored better.

Dr Carl Senior, a senior lecturer in psychology at Aston University, said: "We tend to think of symmetry as being more positive. But people with asymmetrical features motivated their teams and paid attention to them."

Dr Senior continued "The greater asymmetry the leaders have across their body, the more socially rewarding and inspirational they are. These are the people that would sit down with you and ask what you want to achieve in your daily work, as opposed to saying 'do this or you're fired'."

Trevor Lewis, CEO at The Ugly Dating Site says "The study was published in the Harvard Business Review this week proving that it's not just egg heads that realise there are advantages in being ugly. So, think about your current boss, and if he or she isn't very good, next time make sure you work for someone who is uglier."
