Unemployment Rate Decreasing Across the Nation, EmploymentCrossing Finds over 33,500 Jobs

According to Labor Department statistics, over 49,000 jobs have been cut in the past year by the States and localities 210,000.

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/03/2011 -- After addition of jobs early in the recession by the federal government, it is now also cutting them.

According to Labor Department statistics, over 49,000 jobs have been cut in the past year by the States and localities 210,000. There are nearly 30,000 lesser federal workers than there were a year ago. This includes 5,300 Postal Service jobs that were canceled last month. Even though private-sector has increased 1.6 million jobs over the past one year, the nation's unemployment rate is down from its painfully high 9.1 percent. But the state, local and federal job losses have become a drag on efforts.

Albany has launched a new website which lists 42,370 job openings across the state. Nearly half of the jobs listed there are in New York City. It posts 2,726 jobs in Capital Region, 2,699 jobs in Buffalo, 2,228 jobs in Finger Lakes, 1,681 jobs in Hudson Valley and 924 jobs in Southern Tier.

The total unemployment rate in Massachusetts declined to 7.3 percent in September than that of 7.4 percent in August. Decrease in the job estimates show a loss of 2,300 jobs for a sum of 3,231,700 jobs across the state. Out of a total labor force of 3,479,200, nearly 255,100 were unemployed, according to the September estimates.
