Studies have also found the most likely group to be distracted while driving is teens. Bay Ridge Ford is excited to announce that Ford has added a new feature to its MyKey technology to help keep teen drives from getting distracted while driving.
Ford’s MyKey system allows parents to limit the speed and audio volume of their teen drivers. A new attribute of the “Do Not Disturb” feature in MyKey now allows parents to limit cell phone use as well. Launching on the 2012 Ford Explorer, the new technology gives parents the ability to block inbound texts and calls to teen’s cell phones.
The operation of the new feature is relatively seamless. When hooked up to SYNC, the feature blocks incoming calls and text messages from a Bluetooth-paired mobile phone and diverts calls to voicemail and saves texts on the device for the teen driver to read later. Teens can still make voice-activated outgoing calls and the SYNC 911 Assist feature can easily make calls in the case of an emergency.
Features already included in MyKey allow parents to limit top speed, mute audio until front occupants are buckled up, block satellite radio channels with adult programming, limit volume, set alerts for certain speed markets, and issue an early low fuel warning.
