MyKey is available on several Ford vehicles, and Ocala area dealer Key Scales Ford is showing off the benefits of the technology to central Florida customers.

MyKey encourages teens to drive more safely and responsibly through limitations set by the system. When a teen driver is behind the wheel, MyKey will set a top speed of just 80 miles per hour to discourage excessive speeds and the maximum volume on the audio system will be limited to just 45%. The beltminder warning will also continue to chime until the driver and passengers’ seatbelts are fastened.

Preventative measures are also in place when the technology is in use. While the low fuel light comes on at around 50 miles to empty on most Ford vehicles, with MyKey the light will turn on when only 75 miles are left in the tank. Ford’s newest addition, a do not disturb feature, turns off a teenager’s cell phone while they are driving so that text messages are saved and calls go straight to voicemail. The driver will still be able to make outgoing calls through the Ford SYNC system when this technology is also in use on the vehicle.

Ford’s MyKey technology is widely available on the 2012 Ford lineup. The 2012 Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, Flex, Focus, Fusion, Mustang, Super Duty, and Taurus are all compatible with the system.
