Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/01/2011 -- Jefferson County's unemployment rate rose to 9 percent in October. This is high from September's rate at 8.8 percent and down from 9.1 percent in August.

According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, unemployment rate in Illinois was 10.1 percent in October, much higher from the county's unemployment rate. The department believes that the reason for high unemployment rates at this time of the year are uncertain weather conditions which limit work opportunities.

Illinois added 30,000 jobs in October encouraging the economic recovery of the state. Hamilton County has an unemployment rate of 8.3 percent in October, higher than 8.1 in September, Wayne County's unemployment rate was 8.3 percent in October, compared to 7.9 in September and Washington County's unemployment rate stood at 7.1 percent in October, compared to 7 percent in September.

Brown County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state in October with 4.5 percent. The counties with the highest unemployment rate in Illinois were Winnebago County and Montgomery County at 12.7 percent.
